Lorne’s Music Workpage

LESSON OVERVIEW

  1. WARM-UP > Major scales > 8 beats each at 80bpm
  2. Chromatic scale from memory or practice using the fingering chart on pages 30/31 in the Essential Elements Book
      • Ascending & descending. Up in one breath. Down in one breath.
      • Helps to check that all keys are working properly like G# & Eb keys that get “stuck”.
      • Use chromatic Bb fingering (A + the side key)
  3. Pull your bottom lip back for better tone. Less “pinching” of the reed.

Major Scale

          1. Using 1-2-1 format – or – playing it as written in as many keys as you can.
          2. 10/2 – added three new keys
          3. 10/9 – review.
              • PLAY all scales except concert E & A.
              • On difficult scales use the 121 pattern.
              • Try to complete each 121 pattern in one breath.
              • Repeat until you’re relaxed on difficult scales. Slur in one breath. Gaining “muscle memory
